Starting therapy can feel like a lot.
We've made the process as predictable as possible.
Here’s How it Works
You may have questions. Below are the ones we hear most often.
-
Many of the people we work with have had therapy that didn't fit. Sometimes the approach wasn't made for how they think, or the focus was on changing behavior instead of understanding it. Our work is grounded in years of experience with adults with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities, and in a simple belief: you are the expert on your own life. We focus on building independence, confidence, and connection to your own voice, at a pace that feels right to you.
-
We use adapted cognitive behavioral, insight-oriented, strengths-based, and trauma-focused approaches, along with psychoeducation and positive behavior support principles for families and support persons. Every approach is tailored to how each person communicates and processes the world, and clients help shape their own goals.
We don’t provide ABA, which is a separate service delivered by behavior analysts, but we’d be happy to coordinate with your or your loved one’s care team if desired.
-
We are primarily a self-pay practice, and we can provide a superbill which is a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Many commercial plans cover part of the cost, so we recommend calling your insurance company to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits. We are also in-network with Carelon Behavioral Health for eligible Florida Medicaid members.
-
Our self-pay rates are:
Initial intake session (about 60 minutes): $200
Individual session (45 minutes): $145
Individual session (55 minutes): $165
Family session: $175
Fees may change with at least 30 days' written notice.
-
Under the No Surprises Act, if you're paying for care yourself or not using insurance, you have the right to a written estimate of the expected cost before services begin. We'll provide one, and you can ask for it at any time.
-
All sessions are currently held by secure video, so you can join from home or anywhere that feels comfortable. We serve clients who are located in Florida or Virginia at the time of their session.
-
We want sessions to feel comfortable and accessible. Simple adjustments, like lighting, a quieter space, taking short breaks, or having a fidget or comfort item nearby, can make a real difference. If there are other accommodations that would help you participate fully, we're happy to talk them through and find what fits your needs.
-
Standard sessions are 45–55 minutes. Many clients start with weekly sessions and meet less often as things feel steadier. We'll decide together what rhythm fits your needs and goals, and we'll revisit it as things change. In some situations, shorter sessions may be clinically appropriate. That's something we'll talk through together on a case-by-case basis.
-
It's different for everyone. Some people come for a few months to work through a specific goal or transition, like starting a job or moving out on their own. Others prefer longer-term support as life changes. We'll check in regularly about how things are going and what you want next, and you're always part of deciding when it's time to step back.
-
Yes, when the person we're working with wants them to be. We respect each adult's right to make decisions about their own care, and we work with families in ways that support their loved one's independence and voice.
